A picture is worth a thousand words—so please take a look at my photo albums to learn more about what our local host families and au pairs are up to during the year.
Au Pair Game Night

What a rowdy and fun night organized by a couple of au pairs, Solana and Bea.   Rotating games and a couple of winners. Who knew some of these au pairs were so competitive when it comes to UNO, memory and Jenga?  These pictures don’t capture the craziness or even […]

Cupcakes with Dafne

We’re so lucky to have Dafne, a Reno au pair who stayed in Reno.  She’s a chef and a baker so she had us all over to her house for cupcake decorating and a fun night.

Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo

Here in Reno, the Biggest Little City, we start off the year with our Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo.  Always fun and always prizes for the winners.  This year, many thanks to the Prida family for hosting and all the au pairs who came.

Potluck Dinner and Left Center Right

Our Annual Holiday Gathering is a potluck dinner with delicious food from the around the world followed by a rowdy game of Left Center Right.  This year Martina won the $100 and was thrilled to be the lucky one.

Who doesn’t love marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers?  Gathered for roasting the marshmallows, staying warm and indulging.

Au Pair and Host Mom Brunch!

Many thanks to host mom, Megan for hosting this year’s brunch.  Great turn out for the quiche, delicious goodies and great friends.  While I snapped a photo of all the au pairs,  I forgot to get one of the moms who are all in the kitchen enjoying the food!

A Slushy Day on the Ice

A little slushy but still plenty of fun!  Some skated, some stayed warm at the local restaurant looking out at the rink.

Potluck Dinner from Around the World and One Crazy Winner!

This was one of my all time favorite meetings.  Each of the au pairs brought a dish from their home country so we ate and chatted before getting crazy with Left Center Right and one big winner.  Karoline from Brazil brought home $90 and did one super insane victory dance.

Thanks to Alina: It was Archery in November

I love when au pairs have an idea for a meeting and so when Alina found a Groupon for Archery, I scheduled the meeting.  A short lesson and we were shooting arrows and having a blast!

Giving Back to the Reno Community: Volunteering at the Food Bank

I love to do one meeting where we’re giving back to our local community. This year we decided to join all of our local au pair groups so the North and South Lake Tahoe groups joined with Reno to help out at the Nevada Food Bank. We sorted food and […]

Our 2nd Annual Doodle Bus: Another Successful Host Family Gathering

Each fall we all look forward to another gathering of host families, au pairs and excited children ready to welcome Natalia and her Doodle Bus.  This year we had close to 70 people, a bouncy house, a food truck and so much fun thanks to our amazing family who hosted.

August Pool Party and Birthday Celebrations

So nice to have an evening of relaxing in the hot tub and catching up.  Thanks to our professional baker and 2nd year au pair, we enjoyed delicious birthday cupcakes.  Love all of the girls!

Taking a Hike and Food Truck Fridays

Reno is known for nature and outdoor activities so a hike in local Galena Forest was perfect for these outdoorsy au pairs.  And with a growing group, we added another meeting for a Friday night dinner at the Food Trucks.

Our May Au Pair Meeting: Need 2 Speed

Many laughs and all around thrilling au pair meeting at Need 2 Speed.  Not surprising the winner out of our au pair group has a dad who races cars.  It’s in Schane’s blood!  Congratulations Schane for zipping around the track in record speed.

March Family Event at the Fire Station

It’s just hard to predict a slow time at the station.  Even at one of the slowest stations in Reno, we now know that three emergency calls (out of a total of 6-10 a day) can happen within our scheduled tour time.  Still a great afternoon seeing the host families, au […]

February Au Pair Meeting at the Whitney Peak Climbing Wall

This meeting was a special request from our departing au pair, Veronica.  It was her pick on her last meeting before she left for her new family in San Francisco.  Although not all of us climbed, all of us did chat and make new au pair introducations.

A December Holiday Brunch!

This group of au pairs is busy traveling and making memories in their year in Reno so I love to have a quiet meeting to catch up with all of them and hear about their trips.  A couple just visited Florida and a few others were heading to NYC.  I […]

Midweek Meeting to Raise Money for Youth Uplift Challenge

In addition to our monthly meeting, I love to catch up with these amazing au pairs mid week now and then for a coffee, a tea or some hot chocolate.  This is especially nice as the temperatures drop this time of year.  We easily colored 35 hands for this awesome […]

Giving Back to the Community for our November Meeting

Our au pair meeting and evening at Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality was an amazing experience.  What a great way to give back to our Reno community as we head into the holiday season.  We all prepared and cooked warm and comforting dishes like chili, Spanish tortilla, rice and […]

Rowdy, Loud and Unfamiliar American Football is a Blast for Au Pairs

Although most au pairs understand little about American football, they love the opportunity to head to the UNR football tailgating and game.  It’s quite an event to share in the thrill with thousands of fans.   It’s loud and rowdy and the au pairs join right in the excitement.

The Doodle Bus: A Host Family Event

Most amazing host family event ever.  I think everyone will agree that The Doodlbe Bus kept the kids occupied and entertained so the parents and au pairs could take a moment to meet each other and chat.  I’m naming this the First Annual Doodle Bus Event.  Thank you so much Natalia […]

Mocktail Mixx and Swim Party

Love these au pairs.  Check out pictures from our latest au pair meeting, a Mocktail Mixx and Swim Party.  The winner of our Mocktail Competition (it was so tough to pick our favorite) goes to Adela, Theresa and Jana for their Sweet TAJ creation!  They’ll be heading off to Victoria […]

Beautiful hike in Galena forest with a perfect cupcake ending.  Many thanks to Dafne for baking such amazing and beautiful cupcakes.

Host Mom and Au Pair Tea

What a wonderful day with my host moms and au pairs for a tea.  With several selections of teas and infused water, who knew that the most popular drink was the Turmeric Golden Milk Tea?  The healing properties and the delicious taste were a hit!  And a big welcome to our newest au pair Maxi […]

Reno Rodeo

The rodeo was a first for all these au pairs.  Bareback and bull riding, steer wrestling and mutton bustin’, there was so much action to check out.  Most agreed we loved the barrel racing and the mutton bustin’ with the record 18 second ride on a calmly trotting sheep!

May Dinner at BJ’s

Count those Pizookies! There are 7 Pizookies and just 6 au pairs.  Many thanks to the waiter who decided he should toss in one extra (6 just wasn’t enough) and told us to pretend it was someone’s birthday.   So happy early birthday Jana!  How could a waiter resist extra attention to […]

Pole Dancing and Lunch

March found our group at a private pole dancing class at Epic Pole Fitness in Sparks.  Requested by au pairs with pole dancing experience, this event was hilarious! Lunch at Blind Onion was great too.

Ice Skating in Truckee, California

For our January au pair meeting we joined the Truckee group.  We all enjoyed a beautiful afternoon with a bit of light snow, ice skating, and tea with the Tahoe au pairs.

Holiday Tea and Cookie Exchange

A small group but a great morning of eating and talking and talking and eating.  Beautiful cookies from the Czech Republic and also some of the US.

November Au Pair Meeting – The Washoe Club

In Historic Virginia City, Nevada you’ll find The Washoe Club.  It’s not your normal three story brick building, it’s the most popular haunted location in the west.  These brave au pairs dared to enter and all came with big smiles.  Although we heard about Scott who haunts one of the […]

UNR Football Game

Au Pairs at Break Through Reno

A fun night at Break Through Reno where we were trapped at a famous killer’s venue, known as “The Mask”. We gathered evidence, solved clues, unlocked locks and were so close to solving the mystery and escaping.
